The Lagos State Government has taken the decision to reopen the Alaba International Market and some markets within the Trade Fair Complex in Ojo.

The market was previously closed due to issues related to improper waste management and environmental infractions.

Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, clarified that the reopening of these markets was not politically motivated but a strategic move to ensure a clean and healthy environment in and around business facilities.

Wahab stated: “The decision to reopen the markets followed rigorous assessment and implementation of stringent environmental standards. These standards were set to guarantee that businesses in the state operate in a manner that is not detrimental to the environment and the well-being of the people.”

Collaborating with market officials, the Lagos Waste Management Authority, led by Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, worked tirelessly to ensure that the necessary environmental standards were met.

“We have standards that each market in the state has to comply with to make our business environment clean and healthy for buyers and sellers,”

APC Debunks LP’s Accusation That Tinubu Will Witch-Hunt Peter Obi

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has refuted allegations by the Labour Party National Chairman, Julius Abure that President Tinubu will harass Labour Party presidential candidate in the February 25 election, Mr. Peter Obi.

Abure made the allegations while reacting to the Supreme Court’s judgement that upheld Tinubu’s election.

The apex court had dismissed Peter Obi’s appeal against the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) that initially affirmed the former Lagos State Governor as the rightful winner of the presidential election.

The court threw out Obi’s petition over failure to prove their allegations of electoral irregularities and non-compliance with the Electoral Act.

While rejecting the Court’s ruling, Abure said Tinubu is planning to use security agencies to persecute and intimidate Peter Obi.

However, the APC’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Duro Meseko, called Abure’s claim untrue.

He stated that President Tinubu is not the type to target his rivals, while describing the allegation as satanic and mischievous.

Meseko pointed out that Tinubu has a history of including critics in his government, promoting unity, and even invited the Labour Party to join.

“Even this so-called Labour Party was invited on board. But most of their people were busy criticising him, saying he wanted to put their people in government so the party wouldn’t pursue their case in court again and all that. I am saying this confidently that there is no iota of truth in what the LP chairman is saying.”

  • Ministry of Industry, Trade & Investment: Rift With Perm Sec Forces Minister To Shun Office

Ministry of Industry, Trade & Investment: Rift With Perm Sec Forces Minister To Shun Office

The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment finds itself embroiled in a concerning situation as a growing chasm in the working relationship between the recently appointed Federal Minister, Doris Uzoka-Anite, and the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Evelyn Ngige, threatens to cast a shadow over its operations.

This rift, according to exclusive information gathered by Nigerian Anchor, has created an atmosphere of palpable tension within the corridors of power, raising questions about the ministry’s functionality and its capacity to work as a unified team.

Doris Uzoka-Anite, who was officially sworn in as Minister by President Bola Tinubu, has conspicuously stayed away from her designated ministry office, preferring to conduct her official duties from the premises of the Bank of Industry. The reason behind her absence is linked to a disagreement with the Permanent Secretary, notably concerning office renovations, with a particular focus on the restroom.

Sources within the ministry have shed light on the matter, indicating that Minister Doris had requested the renovation of her office space, especially the restroom facilities, to align with her needs as a female minister. However, her request has seemingly fallen on deaf ears, leaving her with no option but to establish her office at the Bank of Industry Headquarters in Abuja.

In addition to the dispute over office renovations, there is another layer of discord in the form of personal grievances held by Minister Doris against the Permanent Secretary. This animosity was ignited by the Permanent Secretary’s failure to extend congratulations following Doris’s appointment as Minister.

The first sign of strain between the two parties was apparent when Doris arrived in Abuja to assume her office. She appeared to snub the Permanent Secretary and other senior officials who were present at the airport to welcome her. This initial friction has since snowballed into a complete breakdown of communication, not only between the Minister and the Permanent Secretary but also with other key members of the management team.

The deteriorating relationship between the Federal Minister and the Permanent Secretary now raises substantial concerns about the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Investment’s operational efficiency.

A seamless and collaborative working environment is essential for the realization of the ministry’s goals and objectives, and this internal strife threatens to impede the department’s capacity to function effectively.

If not addressed promptly and effectively, this internal discord has the potential to hinder the ministry’s ability to achieve its intended objectives, ultimately affecting the progress and development of the industry, trade, and investment sectors in Nigeria.

Supreme Court Dismisses Obi’s Appeal Against Tinubu

The Supreme Court of the nation has dismissed the appeal brought forth by Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the general election, challenging the victory of President Bola Tinubu.

Obi had alleged various issues, including Vice-President Kashim Shettima’s alleged double nomination, which he argued rendered Shettima unqualified to serve as Tinubu’s running mate.

However, the Supreme Court ruled that the matter of double nomination had already been addressed in a prior judgment and could not be revisited.

The court stated, “This appeal lacks merit and is hereby dismissed.”

The appeal by Obi consisted of seven issues, but the head of the seven-member panel of judges, Inyang Okoro, noted that issues 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, and 7 had already been addressed in a previous ruling related to Atiku Abubakar’s appeal.

Atiku Abubakar was the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and his appeal had also been dismissed by the court.

As a result, the Supreme Court upheld the decision of the tribunal, affirming the election of President Bola Tinubu.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Rejects Clarks’ Call To Remove Abia, Imo, Ondo From NDDC

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has strongly rejected the recent call by prominent Ijaw leader, Chief Edwin Clark, to remove Abia, Imo, and Ondo States from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

Chief Clark had made this appeal during a press conference in Abuja, where he urged President Bola Tinubu to expel the three states from the NDDC, citing their inclusion for the sake of convenience as the primary reason.

In response, Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s Secretary-General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, issued a statement denouncing Clark’s call as “satanic, parochial barbarism,” emphasizing that it posed a significant threat to national cohesion and unity.

Isiguzoro expected Chief Clark to support the gazetting of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s recognition of the Old Anambra River Basins as oil-producing states, which would include Anambra, Enugu, and Kogi States into the NDDC.

Isiguzoro accused Chief Clark of promoting ethnic bigotry, which he said had no place in Nigeria’s diverse and multicultural society.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reject Clark’s divisive rhetoric and encouraged the incorporation of the Old Anambra River Basins into the NDDC, emphasizing that such a move would correct historical injustices and promote national integration, development, and unity.

The organization reaffirmed its commitment to a united and prosperous Nigeria, where all ethnic groups are treated with equal rights and opportunities, and where harmony, understanding, and shared prosperity prevail.
