Actor Charles Okocha Breaks Silence After Being Defeated By Portable In Celebrity Boxing Match

Nollywood actor Charles Okocha has opened up on recent defeat to street-pop artist Habeeb Badmus, popularly known as Portable, in a high-profile celebrity boxing match.

Expressing his disappointment, Okocha claimed that the fight was manipulated in Portable’s favor.

He cited inadequate preparations, a slippery ring, and Portable’s decision to remove his boxing gloves during the bout as factors contributing to the unexpected outcome.

“When Portable rushed at me in the first round, I slipped due to the slippery ring. However, in the subsequent rounds, I had the upper hand until he refused to continue fighting. I expected a disqualification when he removed his gloves mid-fight,” Okocha stated.

Despite the loss, Okocha said he remains determined and vocal about his desire for a rematch, expressing confidence in his abilities to emerge victorious under better circumstances.

Addressing the accusations of a financial dispute leading to the fight, Okocha clarified,

“There was no N40 million ripoff as rumored. Our participation was solely due to the offer from the organizers and the social media hype. It was business; there are no personal issues between us.”

Looking ahead to the rematch, Okocha emphasized his readiness and determination to secure a win, promising to leverage his strengths and exploit his opponent’s weaknesses.

The rematch, anticipated to be better organized and fairer, is set to take place at the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, with both fighters expected to bring their A-game for a definitive conclusion.

IPMAN Gives Fresh Update On Fuel Price Increase

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has addressed speculations about an alleged increase in fuel prices during a Channels Television interview.

National Vice President Hammed Fashola emphasized that IPMAN has no intention of raising fuel pump prices, debunking claims suggesting otherwise.

He also asserted that the rumored price of N1,200 per litre did not originate from the association.

Fashola backed the National Nigerian Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL)’s assurance that there are no imminent plans for fuel price hikes and urged Nigerians not to engage in panic buying, assuring them of the product’s availability.

He clarified that IPMAN relies on NNPCL for fuel supplies and stated that as long as they procure fuel at the existing price from NNPCL, they will not alter their pricing.

Regarding the upcoming Portharcourt and Dangote refineries expected to commence operations in the first quarter of 2024, Fashola anticipated that their entry into the market would foster competition, potentially leading to lower prices in the future.

However, Fashola appealed to NNPCL to enhance fuel allocations to independent marketers, highlighting issues in the current distribution system that affect their profitability and operations.

In a separate statement, NNPCL reiterated that there are no plans to increase petrol prices, urging Nigerians to ignore baseless rumors and reassuring them of sufficient petrol availability nationwide.

Idoma Traditional council pegs traditional marriage rites at N50k, bans expensive burials

….Removes stringent marriage conditions, bars expensive

The Idoma Area Traditional Council (IATC) in Benue State, led by Och’Idoma Elaigwu Odogbo, has introduced significant reforms affecting traditional marriage rites and burial practices within Idomaland.

All traditional marriage rites in Idomaland have been fixed at a maximum of N50,000 by the Council.

The decision was made during a meeting held in Otukpo, the traditional headquarters of the Idoma-speaking people.

The council set the maximum traditional marriage rites at N50,000. This decision aims to remove stringent conditions and expectations associated with traditional marriages, promoting greater accessibility.

Moreover, the council has discontinued the practice of returning the corpse of an Idoma daughter from her husband’s home to her paternal home for burial, except in cases of multiple marriages. Expensive burial rites have been banned, emphasizing conduct of burials within affordable means and concluding them within two to three weeks from the date of death.

The resolutions also address inheritance rights, abolishing the practice where relatives deny the deceased’s children and wives their inheritance rights. The guidelines prioritize the deceased’s wife or wives and children for inheritance, unless a written will states otherwise.

Additionally, the indiscriminate burial of corpses within communities, especially in residential areas, has been prohibited. Villages and hamlets are mandated to designate burial grounds by the end of 2024, aiming to regulate burials and seek permission from the Traditional Ruler for burials within or around compounds.

These sweeping reforms aim to eliminate self-imposed cultural practices deemed barbaric and harsh, seeking greater cultural inclusivity and practicality in traditions within the Idoma community.
