Kamala Harris trumps Donald Trump in first presidential debate

The much anticipated and most contentious US Presidential debate took place in the early hours of Tuesday morning, Nigerian time, as televised live on the Cable News Network (CNN).
Living up to its hype, the debate was a fiery fireworks of some sort where the incumbent Vice President, Kamala Harris, who is the Democrat Presidential ticket bearer, shone like an incandescent firework in a dark Christmas night.

Expected to be a critical decider that would enable many electorates across a spectrum of demographics to chose their candidate, the presidential debate did the job by sieving the chaff from the grains.

From the beginning when the Vice president stormed into the venue and went straight to stretch out her hands to shake and introduce herself to the former president, to when she reminded him that she is Kamala Harris, not President Joe Biden,  the US Vice President out-debated former President Donald Trump.
Even in terms of their body language, Trump looked curmudgeonly and predatory most times while Harris appeared presidential, comported, caring and fearless like a commander in chief.

On all occasions, Harris successfully baited Trump in this contentious first debate and he failed on all counts as she goes on to flat him out completely by defining for his lies, racism, narcissism  and emotional instability. For instance, it was revealed by the fact checker that D9nald Trump lied 33 times during the debate, compared with a single falsehood by his opponent.

Her pedigree as a successful prosecutor was deftly deployed to portray him as a felon  for all his lying and bullying.

In terms of specific plans, she laid out her plans on the economy, homeland security, international relations diplomacy and race relations.

And the endorsements started pouring in…

As soon as the debates ended, reports filtered on to break the news about a mega endorsement by pop star, Taylor Swift.
Posting on her Instagram, Ms. Taylor Swift,  posted a picture of herself holding a cat denounce JD Vance, Trump’s running mate who called Kamala Harris a childless cat.

Both teams’ goalkeepers produced excellent saves to keep the score at zero.

The agency clarified that BMHCA has been prohibited in cosmetic formulations because of its potential to adversely affect the reproductive system and pose risks to the health of unborn children.
Furthermore, it highlighted that this chemical has been associated with skin sensitization, which may lead to allergic reactions in certain individuals.

  • Tinubu Didn’t extend IGP’s tenure – Police

    Tinubu Didn’t extend IGP’s tenure – Police

In what some Nigerians argue was like standing logic on its head, Nigeria Police spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi says President Bola Tinubu did not extend the tenure of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun.
Hiding under some legalistic subterfuge he argues, “the President gave his approval to the law governing the tenure of the office as required.”
In a statement on Friday, Force spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the IGP’s appointment is for four years.
“The attention of the Nigeria Police Force has been drawn to various misleading reports and misinterpretations concerning the tenure of the Inspector General of Police, and wishes to categorically state that what President Bola Tinubu approved for the IGP is not an extension of tenure, but rather the proper application of the law governing the tenure of the office of the IGP,” the statement read.
“Contrary to the misinformation being circulated on social media and in the news, an appointment letter in circulation was issued to the IGP shortly after his appointment was confirmed by the Police Council.
“This letter, dated 3rd November 2023, clearly stated that the President had approved a four-year tenure for the IGP in accordance with the provisions of Section 215(a) and Section 28(c) of the Third Schedule of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).”
The question some experts on service matters ask is whether it is possible for Mr. Egbotokun to still function in the office of Inspector General Police after his career life in the Nigeria Police Force had expired?

Public Outcry: Lawmakers demand immediate reversal to old petrol pump price

The House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream) has called on the Federal Government and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd. (NNPCL) to reverse the recent hike in petrol prices.
The committee’s chairman, Rep. Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, described the increase as “unacceptable” and urged immediate action to alleviate the burden on Nigerians.

Doguwa stressed the need for a return to the old petrol price and encouraged broader stakeholder engagement to address the issue.
Doguwa, who also chairs the Special Committee on Crude Oil Theft and Vandalisation, outlined plans to collaborate with security agencies to curb oil theft, which threatens the nation’s fuel supply.

The Nigerian Army has confirmed the arrest of one Adeleye Ayomide, as the suspect responsible for the death of a 300-level student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Idowu Christiana.
The deceased was abducted by suspected kidnappers along the Ikorodu-Yaba Road, Lagos State, on Monday, August 19, 2024.
A family source who spoke with PUNCH Metro on condition of anonymity earlier disclosed that the abductors initially demanded a ransom of N3 million before they could release the student.
However, after several pleas, the abductors accepted N350,000 which was sent to their account but they refused to free the kidnapped student.
When contacted on Thursday, the spokesperson, 81 Division Nigerian Army, Lt-Col. Olabisi Ayeni confirmed Ayomide’s arrest via a telephone interview with our correspondent.
Ayeni said the suspect was arrested by men of the 174 Battalion, saying, “Yes. I am aware about the issue. We arrested him and the 9 Brigade Nigerian Army will be handing him over to the Lagos State Police Command today, so you can liaise with them for further information.”

The handover took place today, September 5, 2024, at about 1400hrs. Investigation is ongoing.”
Also, on Thursday, the Student Union Government president of FUNAAB, Ibrahim Adeyemi, confirmed Christiana’s death to one of our correspondents in a telephone conversation, saying, “The union can confirm that she was reportedly killed by her abductor. We will be addressing the matter soon.”
Christiana’s death has continued to attract reactions from concerned Nigerians, especially users of the social media platform, X (formerly Twitter).
Checks on X by our correspondent revealed that some users had pointed accusing fingers at Ayomide for Christiana’s death.
The hashtag #JusticeForChristiana is one of the top trends on Nigeria’s X domain, with over 90,000 posts as of the time of filing this report.
An X user, Tommy, tweeting as #Tommyjr277, in early Thursday, stated, “Our friend, Christiana is dead, a Funaabite; was abducted by this Ayomide, a student of Philosophy in OOU, Ogun State. He also noted that Ayomide confessed to the deceased’s father and the military operatives to have killed and buried the victim, according to “detailed reports from trusted sources.”
His tweets, among others, read, “Armed by this information, operatives began investigation into the suspect whom they observed to have a mutual relationship with Christiana Idowu, especially judging by Instagram posts as they both commented on each other’s pages. With all these information at hand, the operatives began to track down his cell phone activities and text messages.
“The cell phone tracking led them to his parent’s house, somewhere in Ikorodu. Operatives then got confirmation of his presence in the building through active tracking of his mobile device. Immediately, gallant personnel of the Nigerian Army 174bn swooped in on the suspect to conduct an arrest. After the arrest, damning evidence were seen with the suspect and this includes the victim blue ITEL A56 with IMEI:35230**.”
  • EFCC Chairman, Olukoyede Risks Jail Term For Failing To Comply With Court Order

EFCC Chairman, Olukoyede Risks Jail Term For Failing To Comply With Court Order

A Federal High Court sitting in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, says the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Olanipekun Olukoyede risks imprisonment over his alleged refusal to comply with its ruling.
The court stated that the EFCC boss failed to comply with its verdict in a suit filed against the Commission by the Bliss Multinational Perfection and Arch Oyinmiebi Bribena, the Chief Executive Officer of Baraza Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited.
Justice Isa H. Dashen in his judgment in suit number FHC/YNG/CS/125/2022, had perpetually restrained the EFCC from seizing properties belonging to Bliss Multinational Perfections Limited and Bribena, which are clearly not proceeds of crime.
Also, Justice Dashen declared the seizure and sealing of properties belonging to Bliss Multinational Perfections Limited and Bribena by the EFCC as unlawful.
The court further described as unlawful the instructions given to Bribena’s bankers by the EFCC to place a post-no-debt lien or freeze his accounts.
The EFCC was also perpetually restrained from “inviting, harassing, arresting, detaining, threatening to arrest, or detaining the plaintiffs as a result of the civil dispute between Baraza Multipurpose Co-operative Society Limited and its members, or on matters arising from the registered business objects of the co-operative society.”
The sum of ₦10,000,000 was awarded as exemplary damages against the EFCC for the unlawful seizure and attachment of properties belonging to Bliss Multinational and Bribena.
However, the plaintiff has alleged that, in disobedience of the Court order, the Port Harcourt zonal office of the EFCC engaged an estate valuer to value and rent out properties belonging to Bliss Multinational Perfection Limited and Arch Oyinmiebi Bribena.
Sequel to the development, the court, in a “Notice of Consequences of Disobedience to Court Order” addressed to Olukoyede, noted that “unless you obey the direction contained in this order, you will be guilty of contempt of court and will be liable to be committed to prison.”
This notice comes after the EFCC Port Harcourt Zonal Office engaged an estate valuer to value and rent out properties belonging to Bliss Multinational Perfections Limited and Arch. Oyinmiebi Bribena, The CEO of Baraza Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited.
