VeePee Kashim Shettima is 58 today
Alhaji Kashim Shettima, Nigeria’s Vice President is fifty-eight (58) years old today.
He has ordered that no one should roll out the drums or go on a media frenzy to celebrate his new age.
Media reports indicate however, that all may not be well at the centre of the Three Arms Zone following speculations about a meltdown interpersonal relations between Alhaji Shettima and his boss, President Bola Tinubu.

This rumour about frosty relations gave rise to a spirited effort by Stanley Nkwocha, the spokesperson of Alhaji Shettima, who tried to douse the alleged tension by issuing a media statement on Sunday, describing the speculated crisis in relations between the two leaders as “mendacious propaganda.”
Calling the development as false, the spokesperson said the rumour about crisis as “merely an illusionary strife and smear campaign targeted at tarnishing the cordial relationship between Tinubu and Shettima.”
“In a political landscape where loyalty is often tested, Vice President Shettima stands out as a beacon of dedication and commitment to his principal, President Tinubu. His unwavering support and teamwork demonstrate a refreshing shift towards harmonious collaboration, setting a positive tone for their administration,” Mr. Nkwocha asserted.

Insecurity: Allow NYSC members serve in their zones — Afenifere
The pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, yesterday, urged the Federal Government to allow graduates performing their mandatory one-year programme in the National Youths Service Corps, NYSC, to serve within their geopolitical zones.Afenifere advised the Federal Government given the increasing rate of kidnapping and banditry across the country. While commending the Federal Government and security agencies for rescuing kidnapped NYSC members who were on their way from Akwa Ibom to Sokoto State, the organization urged the government to equip security agents better for optimum performance.Afenifere, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Jare Ajayi, reiterated its advocacy for enrollees to the NYSC scheme to serve within their geopolitical zones rather than going from one part of the country to the other. The association further observed that these pockets of ‘achievements’ appear to be dwarfed by the avalanche of security challenges people are facing in different parts of the country.Alluding to recent incidents, Ajayi noted that fear of kidnappers and attacks by bandits including cattle rustlers, are now rampant. The Afenifere spokesman, who observed that kidnappers now seem to go for groups and high-profile individuals, called the attention of those concerned to factors responsible for banditry and kidnapping. The organization stressed that attention should be given to the prevalence of ungoverned or under-governed spaces where the government’s control is ineffective.Afenifere added that absence or paucity of government presence in such areas makes people of the area vulnerable to exploitation by terrorist groups, traffickers and other criminal elements. He said: “The porosity of the borders has increased the influx of small arms and light weapons from the Sahel region – thus heightening the incentives for crimes and banditry.“Illegal mining has created room for poor governance in the areas affected – resulting in poor service delivery, displacement of the local people, increasing unemployment as farmers and youths are forced out of their farmlands – a situation that is making these set of people to be ready recruits for banditry.” -

Alleged terrorism: DIA gets court order to detain policeman, 19 others
Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja has approved the request of the Defence Intelligence Agency, DIA, to detain an Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP, and 19 others for 30 days.
The police ASP, named A. A Babangida, was ordered to be detained along with other suspects for 30 days order is following their alleged involvement in banditry, kidnapping and terrorism activities.
The order is to enable DIA operatives carry out thorough investigation into their alleged involvement in the heinous crimes.
ASP Babangida who was arrested in June and had since been in DIA custody, was alleged to have been helping Boko Haram, bandits and ISWAP members in carrying out terrorism activities in some parts of the country.
In the ex-parte application, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1146/2024, Counsel to the security agency, S.A Aminu requested for permission of the court to detain the suspects for 90 days.

The ex-parte application of the DIA was supported with a 21 paragraph affidavit which chronicled how the agency obtained hints that led to the arrest of the suspects in various locations and at different times.
After scrutinizing the documentary exhibits placed before the court, Justice Lifu ordered the agency to detain the suspects till the conclusion of investigation.
The judge declined to grant the 90 days requested by DIA on the ground that the suspects have been in custody for three months and the fact that the Constitution presumes them innocent until the otherwise is established against them.
Justice Lifu also ordered that the DIA should do everything within its powers and within the ambit of the law to complete its investigation into the allegations against the suspects so as not to run foul of the law.
